Auckland - Wellington (week 1) — Taupo, New Zealand

There are a few islands dotting the coastline stretching between Auckland and the Coromandel Peninsula called the Hauraki Gulf. Auckland lies on the North Island and is the most populated area in New Zealand with about 1,5million and thus making up for 32% of the countries population. The city is very diverse and multicultural and is home to the largest Polynesian population in the world. Flying Kiwi day 1:. At 10am we were picked up at the wharf in downtown Auckland by the Flying Kiwi bus. Auckland straddles what people call the Auckland volcanic field. The walk started at Queen's Wharf and we walked through narrow streets and parks and then back to our starting point. After my morning walk through the city, I made my way to Mt. Eden (one of the 11 volcanoes) to get a nice view of the city. On my first day in the city of sails (auckland is called this because it has more boats per capita than anywhere else in the world) I decided to join the free walking tour at 10am together with a few other people from my hostel. Origami Exhibition at Artis-Naples and Naples Botanical Garden

This design uses a single, uncut piece of duogami paper that is white on one side and silver on the other. * Possibly the most stunning sculpture in the exhibition is Master Peace, a 25-foot tall sculpture of 1,000 stainless steel cranes. Five sculptures and about 40 unfolded pieces of origami are on display at The Baker Museum with nearly 30 more sculptures at the Garden. Cranes are known to mate for life, so when a thousand cranes are folded and given as a wedding gift, it is in the hopes that the marriage will be a long and happy one. The collection includes Box’s own compositions as well as collaborative works with his wife Jennifer Box and world-renowned origami artists such as Robert J. Lang, Te Jui Fu, Michael G. LaFosse and Richard Alexander. This sculpture demonstrates the exquisite balancing act between the pure form of the origami crane, folded from a single, uncut square of paper, and the elegant precision of the kirigami horse, created using only 4 cuts in. A piece of duogami paper has a different color paper on each side. Origami is the art of paper folding, and each sculpture in the Origami in the Garden collection began with a single piece of paper. Christmas in Fort Lauderdale — Fort Lauderdale, FL

On Thursday afternoon, as I arrived, the traffic was pretty bad, but other than that, the airports we came and went from, the restaurants, streets, and the malls, were not bad at all. We rented our car through Ace Rent A Car, which we have no exception to, however, they do have a policy that took me by surprise. On Friday evening we went to the Mai-Kai Polynesian Restaurant for a dinner and show and everything about it was fantastic. My sister, Sherry and I decided to spend Christmas in the Fort Lauderdale area this year. I had to chuckle at the Jacksonville Airport at their attempt to decorate with Santa’s sleigh and at the decorations on the Fort Lauderdale beach. To locate the alligators the guide locates where the birds are congregating. We learned that in the Park, there are roughly 20,000 alligators, but there is only about an 18% chance of survival of the newborn every year because of the natural eating habits of the older male alligators and other wildlife and preying animals... We stayed at a Travelodge that was about halfway between Fort Lauderdale and Lauderdale-By-The-Sea which turned out to be a perfect location for us. The hotel itself was an older establishment, but the room was clean and met our needs. Source: TravelPod.com TravelStream™ — Recent Entries at TravelPod.com
